Master Plan Projects Update

With the Master Plan approved we have decided to go ahead this fall with some projects from the Master Plan list.  The items being comleted this fall are very minor but impactful projects.  I believe these 4 projects will give you, the golfer, a sneak peak at all the good things that will be taking place in the coming years.  All projects being completed this fall and all of our future projects will be completed with very minimal disruption to golfers.  The little distruption that you will see while the projects are being completed will be offset with a much improved golf experience in your future rounds.  Thank you for your patience as we strive to make Mill Run Golf Club a better golf experience.

Completed Projects as of November 9, 2012

7 Grist Green Expansion

We have completed the collar expansion around the left, right and back of the green.  The bluegrass turf has been removed and replaced with bentgrass or fairway collar type turf.  The green expansion to the back of the green will be a process completed over a couple of months, and involves us slowly lowering the height of cut on the back collar of the green.  This process has been started and should be fully complete by June of next season.  When fully completed this project will give the golfer a larger green surface to hit into, along with a bigger collar around the green that will allow for a variety of different shot choices.

4 Wheel Approach Expansion

We have widened the entrance to this green by removing the bluegrass turf and adding more fairway turf to increase the approach.  The other aspect of this project was to remove the mound in front of the green.  The mound was removed and a swale was created in its place.  This still allows for a level of difficulty in front of this green but will give golfers a much improved view of the entire green surface from all tees.  With the larger approach and entrance into the green, golfers will have a bump and run option to hit into this green if they like.

8 Grist Green/Approach Expansion

We have removed the right greenside bunker and widened the approach over to the right side of this green.  A small grass bunker or swale will be created where the right side of the old bunker was, this will maybe stop some golf balls from going down the hill and add some character to the right side of the green.  With the approach to the green much wider now this should allow the green to be more accessible from all tee decks.  But leaving the front bunker in place will still protect the left side of the green for a more challenging pin when on the left side.

2 Wheel Green Expansion

You will see on 2 Wheel that the approach has been enlarged on the right, front and left side's of the green.  Along with this widening of the approach you will see that the green will become bigger next season to the front of the green.  Being one of the smaller greens on the property this will be a nice improvement on this hole.  Phase 2 of the green site improvement will be done at a later date.  Phase 2 is the bunker redesign.
